Why do so few people write on Medium?

I’ll make this brief.

I’ve landed on Medium for the third time — a bit like my dalliance with LinkedIn. I love the platform: clean, simple and it works. And I’m doing and will do my best to write something every day.

I’m trying to find people to follow in the space between culture and the environment — which I accept is probably too broad — but, so far, it’s hard to find a group or subset of people who write routinely or in some cases at all. In many ways, it feels a lot like Twitter where everyone starts off with a flourish but eventually pulls the plug or simply fades away.

I appreciate that my (writing) purview is very narrow and if I went for the Medium ‘movers and shakers’ my world would light up but that’s not where I’m at. No. I want to use Medium as a quiet way to learn, connect and share.

I’m not sure where this leaves me in terms of the people I’m now following; I’m inclined (but don’t tell them) to unfollow everyone who hasn’t written anything in 2021 and see what’s left.

Anyhow, we’ll see. I feel I’ve still got much to learn.

Take care.
